Care and Maintenance of Your Stone Countertop

Are my Protegere sealed countertops easy to maintain?
Countertops sealed with Protegere are particularly low maintenance and will not require sealing again for 15 years after application. This is significantly less than other stone sealers that typically require resealing every six months. Normal use and regular cleaning with approved products will ensure that your countertop maintains its natural beauty for many years. Abrasive or acidic household cleaners are to be avoided. Any spills should be wiped up as soon as possible. Details about the care and maintenance of your Protegere countertops will be provided with your purchase.

How do I clean my countertop?
What to do:  Clean your countertop daily with a few drops of mild dish detergent followed by drying with a paper towel or a soft cloth.  The use of food-safe stone cleaners sold at hardware stores is also recommended.  Use pH-neutral cleaners, acidic or alkaline cleansers can etch or degrade the stone’s surface.  Clean up spills immediately with an absorbent paper or a soft cloth.  For more intensive cleaning, the use of regular household glass and surface cleaners are approved.  Additionally, any cleaning or polishing product that is specifically labeled safe for use on granite or treated granite is acceptable for use.

What not to do: Do not use abrasive cleaners or sponges to clean your countertops. Bleach or acids can discolor stone countertops, so avoid household cleaners that contain chlorine bleach or acids such as, bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners, tub and tile cleaners and drain cleaners. All chemical spills on your countertop should be cleaned up immediately and rinsed thoroughly using clean water. Never use abrasive tools on stone counters, especially polished counters, as they may scratch the finish.
